Lady Shri Ram College for women is considered to be one of the best colleges offering higher education for women in India. This well known college is situated in the capital city, New Delhi. The college offers courses mainly in the fields of social science, humanities and commerce. Ever since its inception in the year 1956, this prestigious institution has focused on nurturing Indian women as capable global citizens.

College was started by Late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife in one of the school buildings in Daryaganj in Delhi. From a modest beginning with 200 odd students, 9 faculties and 3 courses, the college has grown rapidly with now close to around 2000 students, 150 odd faculties and 16 different courses of study. Besides courses in social science, commerce and humanities, the college also offers graduation and post graduation in the fields of statistics, journalism and elementary education. The college, spread over a 150 acre campus in South Delhi is now headed by Dr Bharat Ram, a renowned industrialist and guided by a board of governors consisting of some of the finest experts from different fields like industry, law, academics and journalism.

The college has not only focused on providing best courses, but also on empowering the women to remove fear and become more confident citizens. Faculties ensure that syllabus of various courses are updated to keep up with the changing environment and of course in line with the guidelines as proposed by the UGC. All the courses offered by the college are approved by UGC.

Admission Process in Lady Shri Ram College for Women

Regarding the admission process, the college admits students based on their score in 12th, they usually use a ‘best of the 4’ model, where they select the 4 best subjects, the student has scored maximum in 12th and then put up a composite score. Out of these 4, English is mandatory for non Sanskrit students. College has started a counseling cell to guide and counsel students on various aspects of admission. For admission to commerce and economics streams, student should have taken mathematics in 12th. Admissions to Bachelor of Elementary Education are through a competitive entrance examination and interview process done by the Central Institute of Education (CIE) in the main University Campus.

Besides world class faculties, the campus also hosts a wide array of facilities for students like a library with a big collection of books and magazines, auditorium, computer lab, sports centre, bank and so on. College also conducts a variety of events and cultural festivals for students including Tarang, an annual cultural event conducted in the campus.
