    Junior Mathematics Olympiad

    National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) organizes Junior Mathematics Olympiad exam for school level candidates in order to filter eligible candidates who have good academic brilliance in Mathematics. The exam is conducted in three stages namely Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO), Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) and International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). From the first two stages 6 brilliant candidates will be screened and they will be sent for IMO to represent India. The details regarding the exam are as follows.

    Structure and Pattern of Junior Mathematics Olympiad

    The exam comprises of 10 questions and the total duration of the exam will be 3 hours. The questions will be of high standard while considering the capacity of a school level candidate. The maximum score one can obtain in this exam is 100. The candidate should have good basic knowledge in Mathematics in order to pass this exam.

    The exam has no specified syllabus. The questions can be expected from the school level Mathematics. The main portions from which questions can be expected include the following.
    • Geometry
    • Quadratic equations and expressions
    • Trigonometry
    • Finite series and complex numbers
    • Elementary graph theory
    • Number theory
    • Geometry
    • Algebra
    • Arithmetic of integers
    • Co-ordinate geometry
    • Inequalities
    • Elementary Combinatory
    • Probability theory and number theory
    • Systems of linear equations
    • Permutations and combinations
    • Factorization of polynomials
    Eligibility Criteria of Junior Mathematics Olympiad

    The aspirants who have passed 10th standard with B2 grade in total aggregate and B1 grade in Mathematics in 9th standard are eligible to apply for this exam.
    The candidates who are studying in 7th, 8th and 9th standard can also apply for this exam if they have good academic brilliance in Mathematics and also subject to certain conditions insisted by the authority.
