    To join the railways you need to appear for the UPSC exam. You need to appear for the Engineering Service exam. The maximum age limit set is 30 years. The notification is normally in the month of January. The exam is normally in the month of May. The duration of the exam is for three days. On the first day you will need to answer an objective type paper on General Studies and General English. On the second day you will need to answer two objective type papers related to area of specialisation. The last day there will be descriptive papers on the subject. There are two positions one can join are Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, Indian Railway Stores Service (Mechanical Engineering Posts).

    Engineering candidates have many options in the Indian railways. The Ministry of Railways requests submission of application from eligible candidates for various posts in the RRBs. The railway board carries out the recruitment of Mechanical engineers in two different ways. The graduated with B.Tech in Mechanical will have to appear in the Combined engineering service exam. The candidates can also appear in the Special Class Railway Apprentices examination. The candidates will be taken in with a probation period of 3 years. The candidates will also be given training during this period at the specific training centers of the railway. The Mechanical engineers in the railway will have to over look the repair and maintenance of the locomotives and carriages. After the probation period the candidates will be appointed as assistant mechanical Engineer. There is also growth in the career through promotions and the candidates can top up their positions as Assistant Executive Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Superintendent Engineers and so on.

    The Railway Recruitment Board carries out a range of examinations annually for the recruitment of suitable candidates into the RRB. Some of the exams that are carried out by the Board are the Combined Engineering Service for Indian Railway Service of Engineers and Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers. The Indian Railway Services of Signal Engineers and Indian Railway Store Service are examples of other exams. These exams are carried out together by the RRB and the UPSC.

    Many posts are available for the students to apply after they finish their studied in the field of electrical engineering. They are:

    * Section Engineer
    * Junior Engineer
    * Electrical Divisional Engineer, etc

    Ya you have more job opporunities in railways after finishing your btech. You write exams for a railway post. The exam name is railway recuirtment board(rrb) and after that only you are eligible for interviews. All the best
