I have completed MCA, I'm a working professional in a private software development company with 10 years of work experience, I want to pursue Ph.D to enter into academics and research in computing. What are my options to do part time Ph.D?

I am working professional in a private software development company with 10 years of experience. I have graduated with MCA degree.
I now want to pursue Ph.D and enter into academics and research in computing.

Since I am working now I have decided to do in part-time or correspondence.

While I was searching for details about the course, I found that only candidates working in research organizations or as faculty in colleges/universities are elegible for part-time course.(I do not fall in any of the category)
Right now I have commitiments and bills to pay so I cannot leave my job and do Ph.D in full time.

So I was thinking that if I could get myself a job as a lecturer maybe I could then do my Ph.D in part-time. I have even written the NET exam and awaiting results.

My concern at this point are follows.
1)Would it be wise to quit my present job and take up another job as a lecturer.
2)Would the salary I get as a lecturer be enough to meet my monthly commitments.
3)Should I forget about doing a Ph.D and continue whatever I am doing now.

I would definitely want to do the Ph.D as I find that would enable me to enter into academics and research.

Please advice and let me know of any other options that might be available

    Thanks.
    david
