To appear for the Civil Services exam, you should have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. Your age should be between 21 and 30 years. For clearing the exam, it is always preferable to have a consistent and regular approach. You should prepare with a clear cut strategy. Reading Newspapers and other periodicals will help you in improving the general knowledge. If you are weak in your mathematics, brush up your sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth standard mathematics. Always learn shortcuts to solve the Mental Ability part. You must have a good knowledge of the Indian constitution, latest acts, government policies, amendments, matters of national and International importance, etc. A few reference books for the exam are India Year Book, A Wonder that was India by A.L Basham, The Economic Survey of India, A History of India by Romila Thapar, NCERT Text Books, An Introduction to Indian Constitution by D.D.Basu, etc.

Re: How to start preparation for Civil Service Exam after completing 10th?

You have mentioned that you want to prepare for Civil services examinations and you are in or have just completed your 10th standard.
But you cannot appear for the Civil services examination before completing your graduation because the minimum qualification that is
required in order to appear for this exam is to have a graduation degree.

So, for the time being you should concentrate on your studies of 11th and higher secondary and then you would be required to select
a course for pursuing your graduation. After completing a graduation course of three or four years depending on your stream, you
would be required to take guidance for the preparation of civil services exams.
Usually students start taking coaching for the exams right from their final year of graduation as the coaching usually ranges
from 9 to 10 months. And after that they require at least 3 to 4 months of self study to make sure that their
preparation is to the level to clear the exam.
