    hi friend,
    Read your subjects properly and important is to understand the concepts and do not try to mug up anything..
    for testing your preparation refer GK publishers for objective questions.. and as many questions as u can..
    more weight-age is given to your core subjects so concentrate on your core subjects, and maths syllabus will be from your basic first year maths
    and numerical methods, integral calculus, differential calculus.
    divide your time and prepare well..
    good luck..

    I can only give you some tips but the most important thing is your dedication and determination to follow it .Reading and appreciating wont help if you dnt follow them.But the main thing is that whatever i am going to tell you might know or have heard somewhere Mainly your Teacher /Professor/your coaching Councillor but never followed it.

    Being focussed is critical, but it's only half the formula to success.
    • In GATE, one needs to prepare thoroughly by understanding the basics. It's not about mugging up of the formulae and applying them.you need to know the principle in the derivation of those end results
    • To succeed in GATE will requires a comprehensive knowledgebase, and the ability to apply concepts in problem situations.
    • GATE syllabus contains topics taught in all the four years during the engineering. six-nine months of regular studies is generally more than sufficient to develop the knowledge base required. At the starting of your preparation, it is very important to remember that mugging up the formulas or the theorems is not going to help.
    • Instead, an understanding of the basics and the first principles should be developed.
    • The best way to understand and grasp basics is to follow standard textbooks.
    • It is not generally advisable to refer to guides or tutorials, as they provide only half information.
    • You should appear for mock test taken by coaching institute from time to time to have agood look at your
    • preparation.
    • Merely knowing the basics and having the aptitude does not guarantee high scores.
    • High scores in GATE is a due to excellent grasp of the subject matter, as well as application of well-thought-out examination strategies.
    • Keep last 15 days for fast practice and revision. Solve as many papers and question banks as you can get from any source.

    Proper selection of questions
    • It is very important that you pick up the easier of the questions first and leave out the tougher questions for later.
    • Since the marks that you get by solving a tough question is same as what you get by solving an easy
      question, it makes more sense to leave out the tough questions and pick up the easier questions.
    • Don't waste your time in dwelling with the question ,give one try and max two try for a single question if it's not working out leave it for later.
    • This is easier said than done as the tough and the easier questions are randomly mixed in the question paper.
    keep your cool and calm very important for success. After all, your mental strength, or lack of it, can make or break records

    hope these points will help many of you to take a start . Don’t waste time and take a start as soon as you can. The one who start early and work consistently reach early and hope see IITs for M.Tech.
    Don’t worry about competition by number of candidates appearing for GATE.

    Good Luck!!

    Try your preparation from 3rd year itself and try to write exam this year also hope you have applied for GATE as it will give you a experience about the pattern and your ability to solve it and according to that you start your preparation......

    If you are not able to solve previous year paper then better to join institutes.......
    Remember one thing there is no age limit to write GATE and
    GATE score are valid for 2years.....
    so prepare well and try to solve previous year question papers as much as you can.....

    Re: How to start my preparation for GATE Entrance examination?

    GATE is an exam that tests you on your fundamentals. The questions are generally derivations of the fundamentals. In GATE one needs to prepare thoroughly by understanding the basics. It’s not at all the mugging up the end results (formulae) and directly applying them; instead, you need to know the principle in the derivation of those end results because in most of the cases the questions are based on the basic principle involved in the derivation, or the case where they may ask the behavior of the system under some other conditions or simple application of that result. Preparation for GATE is an ongoing process, and is supposed to happen in stages. First get your fundamentals right, and then test yourself on those fundamentals.

    Re: How to start my preparation for GATE Entrance examination?

    You must select the subject based on your specialisation in the graduation. You must visit GATE official site and note down all the areas that you need to prepare. Sort based on the areas where you need more time to prepare. Your priority should be to complete them. You can probably balance your time available between the easy and the difficult areas. Revision daily is a must. Once you complete you can start solving the past papers. You must make sure you study all the areas.

    Re: How to start my preparation for GATE Entrance examination?

    GATE examination is conducted by the IIT's every year and the examination is done for admission in the in the Mtech course in the IIT''s and other good colleges in India.Almost all college which even conduct their own entrance exam ask for the GATE admission in case if you have got good marks in that you may get admission in these colleges.

    Since every year many students prepare for the exams so i would advice you if you want to get success in this examination then you have to work very hard .

    Tips you should follow to crack the exams ::

    1.Prepare a schedule ::
    Prepare a schedule and follow it regularly .This help you to complete your course fast .At least study 5 hours a day if you are truly want to crack the exams .The examination is going to be on February so you still have a lot of time.You can start preparing from now only.

    2.Make notes::
    If you will make a notes then this will help you for quick revision .Also if you note down all important things and some thing which is difficult to remember then you can use these notes every day to keep remember tough things.Write down formula in it and learn it always .

    3.Use pen or pencil or color pencil while studying ::
    If you try to learn things orally then you will forget it very quickly so its better to use a pen or pencil and study through writing in a paper.This will help you for long term remembering of whatever you have study . Also you can mark all important topics or lines in a book for quick revision .

    4.Practice ::
    Since the papers contains the maths papers too so to solve maths paper you should have done good practice .Practice will help you in solving a question very quickly .Also sometimes many question gets repeated so their is great chance then you have done some question before too.So if you have a good practice you do not need to solve the same question again and you can directly mark its answer .

    5.Solve previous year paper::
    This is a very good practice to solve a previous year papers because this will help you to know what kind of questions are asked in the examination and also help you to understand the pattern of the examination .Many types questions also get repeats so this will help you to solve these questions quickly .This will save a lot of your time .

    6.Understand your weak points and strong points::
    You must know before the exams what are your weak points and strong points .Do not give much time on a questions which fall under your weak area .Because they might consume a lot of time but you may not able to solve them .

    Re: How to start my preparation for GATE Entrance examination?

    Preparing for GATE can be easy as preparing for your college examinations.Just take little cautions while studying any topic and do remember that gate paper focus on your in depth knowledge of subject,your basics,presence of mind during the examination etc.

    Tips:

    -Always follow standard books for GATE.Try to cover complete all syllabus.If not possible expertise in what ever portion of syllabus you practice.
    -Try preparing notes after reading every chapter/topic.This may initially take some time but will help you while versing before paper.
    -While reading any chapter /topic ask the following questions "WHAT",HOW",and "WHY" and see improvement.
    -Best way to prepare is to follow cycle learn,test,analyze,improve learn,test,analyze,improve..............
    -Gate exam is completely objective based test.Most of time solving objective questions is trickily.
    -Group study is one of the best ways of preparation.Divide sections/topics between you and your partner and have a brief session on topic from your friend before you actually start topic.
    -Normally coaching GATE is not required but if you are not able to concentrate much then this is a good option.

    If you follow those tips then easily you can get a rank in GATE.
