hii defiantely you van enter the railway field .you have to write the Railway recruitment board exam(RRB), you ned to have minimum 60% marks in your graduation. This is an all india level exam, conducted by the railway department, also you can directly walkins to the RAilway and look for any job postings. If you make it then you will get good salary along with that, good facilities.I also suggest you to write the NTPC,BHEL exams.

    Through Indian Engineering Services
(notification in January of every year)

From the first year itself concentrate on your studies. Prepare for the IES exam regularly. You can appear for the exam during the final year.

There are two stages for Exam

    1) Written Exam
    2)Interview

The two best options for you are :
    IES exam
    Civil service exam

    Both are conducted by UPSC.
Since you have done mechanical engg, you are eligible for both, there is no minimum requirement of percentage.

Age requirement is 21 to 30 yrs.
