    How to select optional papers for UPSC Mains exam? Which optional subjects will be easy for a mechanical engineering graduate if not ready to take core mechanical subject?

    sir, i am a final year mechanical engineering student. And i am very interested in prepairing for civil services but sir mechanical engineering is a very vast and very tough subject so i am not interested in opting mechanical as optional subject, but for rest of the subjects i didnt have any knowledge so sir, please, tell me tha what subjects will be easy for me and which have short course. I thought of taking geography, public administration , antropology so sir please guide me that these subjects are ok for me or if not please suggest me some other subjects also.     There are many optional subjects in UPSC exam.
    It depends on your interest to select a subject for optional.
    Some of the Optional subjects are:
    Geography, Indian History, Political Science, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology.
    Among these subjects, Geography, Sociology, Public Administration are easy to score.
    and material can be available easily in the market.

    Hello Dude.....

    Union Public Service Commission conducts the examinations for the selection of candidates in to the civil services and this examination follows certain eligibility criteria which is to be followed in order to appear for the examination.....
    Eligibility criteria for civil services:
    *Age limit-
    You must have attained the age of 21 years and must not exceed the age of 30 years
    *Nationality-
    Candidates whose nationality is India are only eligible for the examination....
    *Educational qualification-
    you must have completed the Graduation course in any of the discipline for appearing to the Civil services...
    These are the eligibility criteria which are to be followed in order to appear for the civil services examination.....

    Examination Pattern for civil services:
    The examination takes place in three ways mainly they are....
    *Preliminary examination
    *Main examination
    *Interview
    These are the three levels of examination which are to be conducted for the selection process......
    Preliminary examination-
    It contains objective type questions and it contains two papers each and the syllabus for the examination contains of
    >>Test of general awareness
    >>Logical reasoning,desicion making,mental ability,comprehension,English languages,numerical aptitude,etc....
    The examination is known as the civil service aptitude test.....
    Main Examination-
    This is the second level of examination which is conducted for the candidates who had qualified the Prelims examination...
    The main examination contains of totally 9 papers mainly and there are two optional subjects and you has to select two papers out of all the optional subjects available and the optional subjects are according to the bachelor degree level of course.....
    Paper1-you should select one of the Indian Languages
    Paper2-English
    Paper3-Essay
    Paper4,5-General Studies
    Paper6,7-optional subject
    Paper8,9-optional subject
    These are the examination pattern for the main examination.....
    *Interview-
    This is the last round for the selection procedure and this round is the last round for the selection and the candidates who had selected in the main examinations are called for the interview....

    Among all the optional subjects available as you are from the mechanical engineering back ground you can take up the mechanical engineering core subject and also you can take up the subjects in which you had interest in.....
    some of the subjects you can also take up if you had interest and they will be easy if you have knowledge about those studies,such as....
    Geography
    Indian History
    Mechanical Engineering
    Public Administration..
    These are the four subjects in which you can take up as the mechanical engineering graduates and these courses of study are easy if you had good knowledge about the Indian Economy and history....
