How to pursue PhD Physics after MSc and Mphil?

I have done my Msc and Mphil in Physics. I would now like to do PhD. But i was not in touch with my subject for the past three years. I am currently in Bangalore. I am scared that I have forgotten my subject. How to apply now?

First of all after Msc and Mphil, I dont think that you will forget your subject so fast, it is just a case of gaining confidence. I am sure once you start reading the subject again you will start getting it again. So your decision to go for further studies look quite apt. There are many ways you can approach going in for a doctoral course in physics. Either you can apply directly for PhD programs with your Mphil score, you could also clear NET exam and become a research fellow and then go for PhD program since you can get a stipend there. Some universities have a test for admission to PhD program and some accept GATE score like IIT's and IISc Bangalore. Best option is to apply for PhD programs or go for clearing the NET exam, thereby getting into a research fellowship program in any of the good universities. As you were not in touch with subject, better to go for some preparatory and refreshment courses in your subject area. Anyway if you are trying for NET exam, you can join some coaching centres where you can get help in having a refreshment to your core subject areas. All the best for your PhD preparations.

You will feel that you lost touch of what you had learnt. Anything once learnt is difficult to be forgotten. It is just a matter of revising what you have learnt. Once you begin going through the subjects you will automatically regain the lost confidence. There are various options available. Either you can appear for the GATE exam. This score is required to secure admission in institutes like IIT, IISC. Another option available is to appear for the NET exam and thus get into the research fellowship program. Since you have cleared M.Phil you can apply directly to the institutes. There are some institutes which take this score. If you plan to appear for the NET exam then you could join some training institute. In this way you will regain your confidence.

Post What do fireworks, love and butterflies have in common? How do muscles work?

How do colours appear? What kinds of levitation are possible? Why can we see the stars? Is time travel possible? What is the maximum force found in nature? Which problems in physics are still open?

dear friend, you have done p.g as well as m.phil, which is very nice.see, forget this that you will not remember things after 3 years long time;once you start studying ,you will come to know each and everything
yes,but forPHd. in physics;now a days you'll have to give entrance exams to follow up the same,on the basis of which you will get the seat.and believe me ;its a very scholarly option;go ahead!
