Indian Administrative Services is the highest level goverment service in India along with
some other services like Indian Police Services and Indian Foreign Services. For getting
admitted to these posts you have to clear the Civil Services examination conducted by Union
Public Service Commission every year. The Civil Services examination are one of the
toughest exams in our country for which every year lakhs of students appear and only
a few thousand are selected. The first stage of Civil service examination is the Preliminary
exam which is nowadays known as Civil services Aptitude Test (CSAT). If you clear this
exam , you will be eligible for Mains upon clearing which you will be called for a interview.
The eligibility for this exam is a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised
institute. So once you compleate your graduation you can fulfill your dream of appearing in
this exam and hopefully become a IAS officer. But this sounds pretty easy only. You have to
work very hard and efficiently in order to get selected. As a student you can start your prepration
from now onwards if you are in college. You can start reading newspapers and competition magzines
    to increase your General awareness.

Re: How to prepare for IAS examination at student level only?

One needs to be a graduate from an Indian university, deemed university or any such equivalency to be eligible for writing the entrance exam for the post of IAS- UPSC held Civil Services Examination.
As the examination comprises of 2 Examination phases- the preliminary and the main examination, both having huge amount of syllabus asking about history, geography, politics and economics which can be studied at the student level from the 11th and 12th books published by NCERT.
One also needs to be thorough about the general studies dealing with current affairs for which a student must be in continuous touch with the business and political magazines and newspapers. Competition Success Review is considered as the bible for the ones preparing for the IAS entrances.
Both the exams also ask one to choose an optional subject, wherein the student should be well versed with the subject. So one can choose the subject that one has already studied in ones graduation.

All the preparation demanded above can be fulfilled at a student's level. Along with the regular studies, one can brush up the knowledge required for the entrance's preparation from the above mentioned sources.
All the best!!!!! Start right now!!!!

You did not mention what you are doing. I mean whether school or college. So, firstly tell about your course and then it will be possible to answer your question properly.
By the way it is necessary to complete graduation before you can give IAS exam.

    hi friend
    In IAS exam
    - one paper is optional i.e. your choice
    - One paper is compulsory i.e. General Studies.

    - Now i will tell you how to prepare for General Studies(GS) paper.
    - if one wants to have command over GS, then he has to prepare 8 major area i.e.
    History
    Geography
    Polity
    Science
    Economy
    Mental Abiltiy
    Current Affairs
    General Knowledge.

    - For all the above topics, best way to start is from Basics i.e. NCERT Books of Class 6th to Class 12th.
    - For History - NCERT + Spectrums Modern India
    - Geography - NCERT + GoCheng leong + a good atlas like orient longman/oxford.
    - Polity - NCERT + any good guide book like laxmikanth's indian polity/ Jojo mathews's Indian constitution and polity.
    - Science - i think Ncert class 6th to class 12th is more than enough.
    - Economy - NCERT class 11th and 12th + pratiyogita darpan's special issue on indian economy + Read and make notes of newspaper about current economy.
    - Mental Ability - R.s.Agarwal.
    - Current Affairs - one has to be thorough with newspaper readings of atleast one year back from the date of exam.
    - General Knowledge - India year book + Manorama year book or Chronicle year book.
