Well your are not mentioning which university. Because in tamilnadu the councelling of the lateral entry is over and all seats are filled and already colleges are opened and conducted for them. so it is very delay moment

if you are completing diploma you are eligible for taking admission in b.tech second year through lateral entry test . the seats are available for diploma holders is minimum 10% to 20% . but different seats are available for different -different colleges .but it is sure the seats are available for diploma holders in every college are very less . so if you take admission in reputed college then you try for good rank.

All the Engineering colleges which allow Lateral Entry students basically reserves 10% of total seats for Diploma students.But it depends upon college that how much % of seats they reserve for Diploma students.You can contact your University for exact details of seats.

Their are near about 10-15% seats for diploma holders through LEET .All the engineering colleges donot give admission through LEET
so better conform before applying and best of luck for your future

You need to have atleast 60% marks in diploma With no Backlog pending.(If there is any you need to clear it first)
After that you will have to appear in LEET (Lateral Engineering entrance Test)to take direct admission in B.Tech. second year/third semester.
LEET is held by the board from which the college is affiliated. It is held in The month of June.
Seats are limited(10-15%) in every trade for diploma students.You need to work hard to get admission in B.Tech. in some good engineering college.Note that every engineering college does not offer admission through diploma, so you better check for the diploma colleges in which state you want to take admission.
On the basis of your rank in LEET you get eligible to take admission in B.Tech. . If your rank is high , then you will be preffered first by the respective college you want to take admission.

It totally depends on the policy of the university as you are not mention the name of the university or the state so i am not in the position to give you exact data but it is aprox 10 to 15 percent of the total seats available for that particular course.
In Rajasthan technical university 10 percent seats are available for the diploma students in mechanical engineering course through lateral entry scheme.

In Engineering you can apply for lateral entry scheme directly second year B.TECH.The seats are available for diploma holders are very less as compared to +2 students.Only 10% seats are available for diploma holders through lateral entry scheme for each college,so if you get admission in reputed colleges then you try for good rank in L.E.E.T test.If you are in Punjab then you can apply for Punjab university Chandigarh,Punjabi university Patiala and many other colleges.
