    How many optional subjects should I select for both IAS Prelims and Mains?

    IAS
    Worthy sir/ma'am
    May i know that how many subjects we have to select from the optional subjects both for prilims and mains exam?

    HI there!
    >>IAS PRELIM
    -IAS preliminary written test is called CSAT(civil services aptitude test)
    -The syllabus is all same for each and every aspirant irrespective any branch or stream of graduation.
    -The CSAT syllabus contains aptitude mathematics till 10th standard,communicative English and all.
    -There are no optional subjects to choose from in CSAT.

    Final witten examination
    -Here you have to choose any two of the 26 available optional subjects.
    -This will be a subjective type written examination.

    General inforamation
    -You should have a graduation degree from a government recognized university for becoming eligible.
    -Your age should be in between 21 years and 30 years.
    -Relaxation in the upper age limit is there for the reserved category students.

    IAS exam is conducted by UPSC in once time in year through Civil Service Exam.So you must attend in CSAT exam.

    Those candidate have completed graduation degree or final year of graduation degree from recognized board are applicable for IAS exam.

    But your age should be in between 22 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide only for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

    The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. for OBC candidate it is 7 times and for general candidate it is 5 times.

    Civil Service examination can be divided as three stages.

    1)Preliminary
    2)Main exam
    3)Interview

    The pattern for CSAT exam is given below-

    Friend,
    -With the new pattern of Civil Service Exams coming into place,you will not have to choose any subject for the Preliminary exams as you had to do before.
    -Now you will have to choose optional subjects for the Mains Exams only.
    -You have to opt for two optional subjects for the PAPERs of Main from the list of Optional Subjects and another Language subject,along with English.
    -Hence you have to choose three optional subjects in total.

    dear according to the new plan you have to select only 2 optional subjects for mains examination only.
    you have to select any two subjects from the optional subjects below ,each subject has two papers which carries 1200 marks,

    • commerce and economics,electrical engineering,
    • geography,
    • geology,
    • history,
    • philosophy,
    • management,
    • mathematics,
    • physics,
    • political science,
    • psychology ,
    • sociology,
    • statistics,
    • zoology,
    • medical science,
    • psychology,
    • public administration,
    • anthropology,
    preliminary examination:
    in this exam there will be two papers :
    the IAS prelims consists of objective and consists of two compulsory papers to all of them .
    the negative marks for each question is 0.33 marks,
    • general studies carries 150 marks,
    • any one optional subject -300 marks,
    optional subjects for the preliminary examination,
