    there are two sections in IES exam.section I is necessary which is generral ability.
    And other section is optional, you may choose accordingly the subjects in which you have ample amount of knowledge.
    You may also choose subject that you have in your graduation.

    Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

    Getting into IES is abig task and also choosing the subjects is a other task you need to do achieve your goal.

    Entrance test consists of two parts :

    Written Exam:
    there will be 5 papers in written test of 200 marks each as follows:

    Paper 1: General Ability Test (General Studies and General English), this will be objective type test & mandatory for each applicant.

    Paper 2 & 3:
    Paper 2 & 3 will be objective type test of 200 marks each based on core engineering subjects (candidate core branch of engineering degree.) The subject comes under these papers are civil engineering / mechanical engg. / electrical engg. / electronics & telecommunication engg.

    Paper 4 & 5: paper 4 and 5 will be subjective tests of 200 marks each on core engineering subjects engineering / mechanical engg. / electrical engg. / electronics & telecommunication engg.

    Personality Interview: candidates qualified in written test will be called for personal interview where their personality will be judged, the personality interview will be of 200 marks.

    Now based on the paper pattern decide now on choosing the subjects.

    All the Best

    The syllabus for IES is similar to the syllabus of the GATE so if you have the idea on the syllabus of GATE EEE then it will be similar with minor changes

    anyways the syllabus for IES is going to be uploaded in this post

    and one thing i want to clear you that there will be No optionals for IES exam like

    CSE(Civil Services Examination) Only CSE has the facility of optionals

    The IES syllabus of the exam covers these topics for both the objective and Conventional type papers

    they are :-

    -> EM Theory

    -> Electrical Materials

    -> Electrical Circuits

    -> Measurements and Instrumentation

    -> CONTROL SYSTEMS.

    -> Electrical Machines and Power Transformers

    -> Power systems

    -> ANALOG AND DIGITAL ELECTRONICS AND CIRCUITS

    -> MICROPROCESSORS

    -> COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

    -> POWER ELECTRONICS

    These are the topics which are covered in the syllabus of IES this syllabus is similar to the GATE EEE

    And the full details of the syllabus is uploaded in the text file of the same post

    please have a look at it

    Re: How to choose subjects for IES Examination?

    Dear friend,
    IES(Indian Engineering Services) exam is held to recruit engg. in different govt. services.

    IES is conducted by UPSC every year.

    Eligiblity for IES is follows:

    1.You must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years.

    2. 5 years relaxation if you a govt. employee,defence person,SC,ST,and 3 yrs relaxation if you are a OBC candidate.

    3.You should be a graduate from engg. college.

    So my friend for IES you do not have to choose subjects like CSAT.In IES questions are asked according to your branch,which branch you had in engg. degree.

    Suppose If you had computer science ,then questions will be asked from computer science subjects.

    DIfferent question papers are designed for different branches.

    The selection through Engineering Services Examination is through two stages:
    Written Tests & Personality Test. Only the candidates who qualify the written tests are called for personality test. The written tests are of 1000 marks while personality test is of 200 marks

    Branches which are applicable for IES are:
    1.Civil Engineering

    2.Mechanical Engineering

    3.Electrical Engineering

    4.Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

    best of lk..
