To take up a career in Astronomy you should complete a Ph.D in astronomy after M.Sc Physics. It will take a minimum of 3 year to complete Ph.D. Indian Institute of Astro Physics offer a full time Ph.D programme. The admission for the course is through an entrance test followed by an interview. The selection is based on Join Entrance Screening test. This exam is conducted in the month of February. All the leading news papers advertise the notification of entrance exam. IUCCA is another university offering Ph.D. The admission is through written test and interview and the candidates who are selected need to clear CSIR/UGC-NET/GATE within one year of admission to Ph.D to pursue the course. Other institution offering Ph.D courses are RRI, TIFR, UPSO, ISRO, NCRA, etc. You should visit the official website of these universities to get more details.
