Good to know that you are pursuing you degree in natural science. i.e. B.Sc.
I want to tell you that natural science is the core area for research and yeah its certainly looking for interested candidate in it as much talent are drifting in professional course.
Now as you are not a medical student don't think about medical side.

Here you go you can have now

    Physics
    Chemistry
    Mathematics
    as the major division

First of all if you want to go in research you will have to do your masters course i.e. MSc. This is normal way most of the student choose . After this PHD and the going in some R & D firm or professor.
Other wise you can choose research laboratory in INDIA like BARC, DRDO, IISc, ISRO NFC etc there are many more other institute like this.
these research organization recruit young talented mind from betchlor degree train them for 2 year give them master degree and assign them scientist post in respective department. Ater now there is not any problem of funding in project neither any research opportunistic.

    Good luck

In order to get in to research field, it is essential to pursue an M.Sc degree in the related field. This will help you to join for research based posts in private or government sectors. You can apply for UGC –CSIR –NET exam for this. By qualifying this exam, JRF position will be suitable. M.Sc candidates can also pursue PhD course. This will help you to take up research work in specific subject area. Also, there are reputed research centers where in candidates can apply in. PG qualified candidates can also join defense sector in specific research projects in DRDO too.
