Candidates are required to appear for the Civil Services Exam. The notification for the exam generally appears in all leading news papers and in Employment News every year. Same information can be obtained from the official website for details. The application form and the information brochure for the exam are available at post offices or head post offices across the country.

The exam can be broken down into three Preliminary exam (held in May/June), Main exam (held in October/November), and the final Interview. The age limit is 21-30 as on 1st of August of the year of examination. There are relaxations in the upper age limit in cases like SC/ST, OBC candidates. The qualification is a basic degree in any university in the country. Final year students awaiting results are also eligible. The number of attempts is 4 and 7 in the case of OBCs and no limit for SC/STs.

For the IAS officer you have to clear the entrance exam conducted by the UPSC with good score.
It's really not very easy to get into IAS. You have to prepare for it hardly and seriously. You should be aware of current affairs, with good english grammer, general knowledge, literature etc.
    So prepare for it.
