Astronauts are selected by space oraganizations like ISRO in India or NASA in USA. Moreover ,people who go to space are those who are working in these organizations because it is very difficult for a person to servive in space without a thorogh knowledge about space which also includes technical knowledge.
If you are a non-technical person,then its very difficult for you to become an astronaut,because basic requirements of an astronaut are bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics.

Hence.doing medical will not guide you to the path of becoming an astronaut. However,if you are interested in Biology,then you can opt for biological Sciences. Age limit: the candidate should be atleast 21 years at the time of joining. The age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category

Next you need to undergo tests in professional and psychological aptitude assessment which includes behavioral and logical skills. After that they will go through a Medical evaluation. The final stage is an interview where the candidate will be judged before he/she is selected. You should remember that only 2 or 3 people out of scores of candidates will be chosen at the end. So, they need to be prepared for the toughest competition.

If you want to become a astronaut then you have to do Most Helpful High School Courses like- Chemistry, Biology, Computer science, AP® Calculus BC, AP Computer Science AB and AP Physics C and Take as many AP and Honors courses as possible.
But, The ideal astronaut candidate would probably have a BS from the Air Force academy and a PhD from MIT or Cal Tech........

You need to be a US citizen by the time you graduate. Because only the USA has flight crew astronauts. There have been mission specialists from other countries. These people need to have at least one PhD in their field, preferably more.

First you have to complete your graduation in Engineering, in my opinion aeronautical engineering is the best. After completing your engineering degree you must have 3 years experiance in the related work & you should have atleast a 1000 hrs experiance in a jet plane if you would like to join as a pilot

If u want to do instrumentation/experimental astronomy,u may go for engineering option.
If u want to do theoretical astronomy u may go to science stream.
You have to get a B.Sc. or B.Eng. in physics or Engineering subjects and apply for a master's degree programme in one of the Indian institutions.
There are several institutes in India which offer to pursue a career in astronomy.
