    If you have interest in these subjects then only go for it, as IAS is a tough exam and without interest you may not be able to concentrate on the facts and study material. Sociology is a good subject. try to check its syllabus if you find it interesting.

    Your question is not very clear,if you have mnetioned your academic study through that i could have suggested you wih the optional subjects now that you have asked me whether it is good or not i can say only this : If you are a student of history and geography and have a good command then you may happily take them as optional subjects its totally depend on your personal intrest and grip on the subject.Here is a list of optional subjects :
    • ESSAY
    • BOTANY
    • LAW
    These are the optional subjects so, your choice is good one go ahead.

    History And Geography are two main Important Subjects for an I.A.S Examination .

    History ::

    * History Deals With The Past .

    * It lets us know what all great things has taken place .

    * By knowing the things ; it's of great use to us .

    * By knowing which things took place in which year it tests the ability .

    * We might not know about all the great people . .

    * By going through the history we can know them and the role played by them !!

    * Future also becomes a history . . .

    * Knowing History is important and making yourself a part of it also is . .!!

    Geography ::

    * Geography deals with the locations ; places their names etc etc .

    * To go any where its equally important where you are going .

    * Longitudes and Latitudes play a vital role . .

    * North , South East or West is important .

    * you analytic ability is tested in this portion ..

    * The meridian test . . .Your mathematics plays a role here . .

    Both the subjects are equally important for scoring good marks . .

    Dear Friend,
    Yes indeed History and geography subjects are very much useful for IAS exams as you can opt them for the optional subjects. The subjects will be of an honors degree standards which is slightly higher in standard when compared to Bachelor's degree but lower when compared to Masters, i would also recommend you to have one more subject in hand just in case you wish to have an option other than history and geography.

    Yes of course, half of the Questions in IAS Mains Exams are asked from History and Geography.

    History and Geography comes under General Studies Section of IAS Mains Examination Paper.

    So in order to answer this section, you must have enough knowledge on Indian History, Geographic Places, etc,.

    Firstly, look at the Syllabus of IAS Main Examination and the topics covered in it.

    If you see clearly more topics are related to Indian History, Wars, Places, Geography, etc,. this sounds the importance of History and Geography in IAS Exams.

    These are the civil services which are offered by the UPSC civil services.These civil services are one of the prestigious examinations which are offered and these civil services are one of the toughest competitive examinations which are conducted by the UPSC and There are lots of competition for these Examinations.and you need to appear for these examinations after satisfying the eligibility criteria and the candidates who are the Intelligent Brains of the India are only given the opportunity for working in these Civil services...........

    IAS exam is one of the tough exam like iit in science line IAS exam will pass those students who are good in general knowledge and apart from it you have to study with interest then only you can clear this exam because history and geography is too wide subjects inorder to clear this you have to concentrate more on this exam then only you can clear this exam and you have to remember more number of knowledge and you can take expert teachers guide in study......thank you......good luck

    history and geography are good subjects for IAS exam.
    but these are not only enough for IAS preparation.

    if you are a student of history background, then it is very easy for preparation.

    But for prelims and general studies paper you have to prepare all other subjects for overall knowledge.

    IAS exam is Indian Administrative service exam...

    IAS exam is conducted by UPSC...

    it requires minimum graduation from recognized university...

    And your age should be 21 to 30 years...

    IAS exam is fully based on Arts stream subjects it will more clear with arts stream..

    The history and geography subject will give more helpful in exam...

    In main exam,you can choose your own interested subjects which you are like or experienced more.but in preliminary exam either you take a very familiar subjects to you or your department subjects.i think you are a B.A graduate.you can choose any two optional subjects for IAS main exam.though you are prepared well,the language of the paper is english and hindi only.so,i advice you to get improved with fluent english
