    Yes of course why not......!

Calcutta University is one of India's reputed Universities and a Institute of State Importance, and soon it will be upgraded to an Institute of National Importance.

Don't worry just go for it, there is nothing to think upon it.

Whereas for fees. Since calcutta University is an Institute of State Importance a government of West Bengal undertaking
Fee is almost nothing for courses at CU.

Here is the MA/M.sc Economics fee structure of CU (Direct University or we can say Ashutosh College):-

    Monthly fee - Rs. 100/month
    Admission fee - Rs. 100/-
Session charge - Rs. 44/ year
Library fee- Rs. 400 for 2 years
    Examination fee - Part 1 Rs. 130, for part 2 Rs. 100/-

So, as I said fee at CU is almost nothing.

Yeah but it will be quite costlier, if you are taking admission into any college which is affiliated to CU.
For example - instead of pursuing direct degree from CU you are going through Jaipuria college then fee structure would be different
Jaipuria will charge its own fee.
