Re: Future prospects in the field of interior designing? Eligibility? Colleges?

Interior designing is one of the most uncoventional and a niche course which can take you to places. The scope of the course has gone up especially due to the increase in real estate and construction business. In the olden days, all the design work was done by the architect but now as people are becoming more conscious of the designs and layout the demand for professionals who can do the designing work has gone up. There is more demand for interior designers now. Majority of the interior designers now a days specialise on particular areas like business designs, residential designs, landscaping designs etc.

Once a person completes the interior designing course he/she has option to team up with an Architect, in order to work on specific projects where Interior Designing is required. There are many options to work as an interior designer. People have the option to work from the offices, one's own home or on a part - time basis. A person can be of any stream if he/she wants to do this course. Before a person goes for such a type of course the only thing they should introspect is whether they are creative and imaginative enough to design and formulate new ideas and put them into implementation. Designers need to understand attitudes of the client, their life - styles and their cultural preferences, and take all this into account while making the designs. One should also have sound communication skills in order to interact with and understand the needs of the client. The designer should also be aware of contemporary styles in designing and construction.

There are a lot of institutes in India offering certificate, degree and post graduate level courses. Some of them are: Five year program in Interior Designing at CEPT (Centre for Environmental Planning Technology). Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at the J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai. National School of Design offers courses in product and furniture design at the graduate diploma level. Some of the other institutes are National Institute of Fashion Technology in Bangalore, School of Interior Design in Bangalore , Karavali College of Interior Decoration in Mangalore, SNDT Women's University in Mumbai, School of Interior Design at the Institute of Environmental Design in Gujarat. The other institutes offering short term courses in this area are Exterior - Interiors in New Delhi, Apeejay Institute of Designers in Mumbai, Sai School of Interior Design etc.

    Hi Ashish,

How's you dude!!! dear, just don't worry about your career. N numbers of colleges are available in India that are providing courses in interior designing. My cousin is also doing interior designing from dia. I also personally recommend you this academy as it's offering best designing education and opportunity to study first 2 years in India and rest in UK. Also, it doesn't matter that you're from commerce or science background, both streams are applicable for this course. Even its fee structure is also fairly affordable. more info is available at diaindia.co.in. Other than this, you can also apply in other institutions also like nifd, academy of art & design, jj etc.

    thanks
