Re: Which field should I select in 11th in order to become a IPS Officer?

The requirement for this post is graduation. There is no mention on any of the specific areas that one needs to specialise in. So you can choose the stream you are comfortable in. That means if you feel you are most comfortable in a particular subject make sure that you specialise in the same. Donot go by any rumors for the same. The pattern for the screening round has been changed. It is now solely aptitude related. You can start preparing for the same once you complete your 12th standard. But for the general awareness section make sure you prepare right away. Reading newspaper, magazines must be a daily habit. Collect as much knowledge about happenings across the world.

You dont worry about ips in now itself. You go with any stream and complete your 12th. After that you do one degree graduation. That is requirement and age limit is 21 to 30.

    Hi
    Minimum education criteria = Graduate
Maximum age criteria = 28yrs (for General category and I think it is 32 years for SC/ ST categories)
You have to apply for UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) exam. Notification for the same is done by the Govt.Gazette and in the Employement New and Rozgar Yojana news papers (available on weekly basis in newstands).
Once you apply, you have to take the Prelims exam in a subject of your choice and General Knowledge. This is a subjective paper. Once you get through the Prelims, you have to write the Main Exam (again subjective), but you have to choose 2 main subjects (eg. Physics and Political Science etc).
After you clear the Main exam, you need to take the Group Discussion and then the interview.
Based on the overall ranking and your choice of cadre, you will be provided IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IAS or IPS. The higher your rank, the choice is with you.
In case you have not not got a good rank and got into IFS, IAS or IPS, you may still become a Group A or B officer in the Central Govt.

    Hi Friend ,

IPS is Indian Police Services is one of India's most important post .Its is a civil Service Exam which is conducte dby UPSC Every Year.Detail of the same is Given Below .

    Exam Pattern :

Civil Services conducted by UPSC comprises of two successive stages:

Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type.
Main Examination: written examination and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November.

Books to prepare for prelims are ::

For ‘General Studies’ read political and business magazines as much as you can but within limit.

For ‘optional subject paper’, the most important thing is that you choose a subject about which you are very much confident.

As you may have noticed Its (Exam) All about Politics and your General Awareness and Physical Fitness, So Arts is the Best Stream if you want to go in IPS

But its not that if you choose other stream you wont be able to Crack civil Service Exam.In fact Every Year Engineering Students Get selected about 4-6 out of 10 .

Re: Which field should I select in 11th in order to become a IPS Officer?

IPS stands for Indian Police service. IPS is one of the three civil services,
the other two being Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and Indian Forest
Service (IFS). These are known as All India services because the candidates
for these services are recruited centrally by the Central government, but these
candidates serve to various state governments across India.

The IPS officers constitute the police forces which are responsible for
internal security, maintaining law and order and also public safety. For all
the three services i.e; Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and Indian Forest
Service (IFS) and Indian Police service (IPS) , a combined examination is conducted
by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India. This examination is conducted
    every year.

The eligibility for appearing in Civil services examination is that you must be
a graduate in any discipline from a recognized institute of India. So there is
no such criterion that you can appear in Civil services examination only if you
have a certain educational background. You can choose any stream after 10th
depending your interest. Whether you choose science, arts or commerce you will
be eligible for Civil services examination.

The examination takes place in three stages as follows :-

-The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)
    -The Mains
    -The Interview.

CSAT is the first stage of Civil services exams . It is a objective type
examination which will test your skills in various sections like Logical reasoning,
data interpretation , analytical skills, mental ability, Decision making, Quantitative
    aptitude etc. and General knowledge.

After you clear the CSAT , you will be given a call for mains examination which is a
subjective examination. On the basis of joint calculative performance in both CSAT
and Mains you will be given a interview call which is the final stage of Civil service exams.

The interview with the UPSC panel is one of the most tricky parts of this examination.
Many candidates fail to succeed this stage of the examination.Remember You need to prepare
for this interview very seriously and should start thinking strategically and logically from now
to help you prepare for your future.

    Exam Pattern :

All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages:

    * Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.
    * Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November. One must begin preparations of the main exam along with preliminary exam. This is because there is little time for the Main exam if one waits for the results of the Preliminaries..
    thanks
