Graduates of any stream can apply for these exams. Candidates in the final year are also allowed to apply. There are three stages to the selection procedure. To begin with you need to appear for the CSAT exam. The structure of this exam has been changed from this year. Here the candidate will be tested in two areas. The first is general awareness area where there is no change from the previous year. The second part has been changed to aptitude test which will have questions from Quantitative aptitude, Comprehension, Grammar etc. Only after clearing this level will the candidates be eligible to appear for the mains exams. There will questions from the subject area, English language and also any other language. After clearing this level the candidate will have to face the interview. All the information is available in the UPSC site.

Re: Exam pattern of IAS exam? Procedure to get the application form? Eligibility Criteria of IAS exam?

There are 2 written tests conducted as part of the IAS exam. They are the preliminary and main exam. According to the new pattern, there will be a Civil Service aptitude test instead of the Preliminary test. The test pattern will be of objective type. It consists of questions on common aptitude and general studies. Aspirants who have passed graduation in any streams are qualified for the Civil Service exam. They should be aged 21 years or above, but should not exceed 30 years of age. In addition, applicants are required to be Indian citizens. The Civil Service forms are issued in all General Post Offices countrywide. The last date for procuring application is 21.3.2011. Please visit the UPSC authorized site for clarifying you doubts regarding the test. You can also procure preceding years’ question papers from the site.
