Elligibility for Civil Services without a Bachelor Degree or Graduation Degree?

    Hi

I am curious if there's any way a non degree holder could happen to be acceptable for Civil Services (IAS, IPS etc).

What if he/she crosses the preliminary exam with nice ranking?

I am aware that he/she should be graduate before the Mains but what if he/she hasn't got a degree but they cross Preliminary exam of Civil Services with nice ranking?

Is there any way our Govt. can provide any relaxation in it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards
    Akshara

Re: Elligibility for Civil Services without a Bachelor Degree or Graduation Degree?

You got it right that you can appear for prelims even if you have only appeared for graduate degree exams and results are awaiting. But graduation from a UPSC approved institution is a must for clearing civil services exams and then getting admitted to the interview process. Even if you score high marks in prelims and you fail to pass the graduation exam, you cannot go through the remaining stages. However UPSC reserves the right to let candidates appear in mains even without proper qualification only under exceptional situations, but this is very rare occasion. So the best option remain qualifying a proper graduation course as approved by UPSC for going in for mains course and then for interview process. Any exceptions can be made by UPSC.

Re: Elligibility for Civil Services without a Bachelor Degree or Graduation Degree?

The basic qualification required for a student to write the Civil Service Examination is a pass in the Under Graduate course. That means he/she needs to have a degree from any University which is approved by the Government of India.

But for a person who has appeared for the final year degree examination, he can appear for the Preliminary examination of Civil service. But if we consider the stage of writing the Main examination of Civil service the aspirant need to submit the proof of having passed the graduation exam and certainty of getting the degree certificate from the concerned authority.

At certain times, UPSC will also provide certain relaxation for those who do not have the above said educational qualification. For such students they will let them to appear for the main exam if they find that such students have cleared an examination which is conducted by other institutions that is good enough to admit them for writing civil services exams. But such occasions are quite rare.

Could any of the senior members here please clarify my doubt on whether a person who has taken more than the stipulated time period to complete a degree (for example 6 years to get a B.Tech due to poor academic records or medical reasons) allowed to appear for CSE?

The eligibility for appearing in Civil service examination is a graduation degree and you have to have it strictly.
There is no provision to allow students in main examination without a graduation degree.
The goverment provides no such relaxation.
However if you are a final year student of your course, you can sit in the prelimns.
But you will have to submit the degree before appearing in mains in case you get selected.

Better you pass out with your graduation because if you dont pass in graduation and get a nice or good score in preliminarily exam you will not be allowed to go forward for the main exam ;so its advisable to go for graduation.

So the best option remain qualifying a proper graduation course as approved by UPSC for going in for mains course and then for interview process. I AM DESCRIBING FULL DETAIL OF IAS EXAM ;-
To work as a IAS officer one should take the Indian Civil Service Examination carried out by the UPSC. To apply for the Civil service examination the candidate should have a bachelor degree in any discipline. A graduate with 50% in the qualifying exam under the recognized university is eligible to apply for the exam. The minimum age required to sit for the exam is 21. The maximum age bound is confined as 30. The criteria for the IAS exam are decided by the UPSC board. There is some relaxation for the reservation category. For a candidate from the OBC category will get 3 years relaxation time and that of SC/ST will get 5 years relaxation in the age criteria. To be a IAS you have to appear for UPSC exam and the eligibility criteria is min. graduation. Then the UPSC exam consists of 3 parts that isre.exam , main exam, and interview.
all the questions are based on GK,current affairs etc.and in interview you have to through all the things "UNDER THE SKY"you must know it...!!?

If the final results are not out befor the filling of forms of Mains, then you are not eligible. You can read this in the manual which is issued at the time of filling of prelims application. There it is clearly mentioned. You need to have your final marksheet ready before Mains,or else your candidature will be rejected regardless of your performance in the prelims. You can also check the UPSC website for the manual or handout for your self satisfaction.
