The Union Public Service Commission conducts Combined Defense Services (I) examination for recruiting suitable candidates to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers’ Training Academy.

Exam pattern:

The recruitment is done through a written test, interview and personality test. The written test is very important and is the first hurdle to be crossed to be successful in this exam. In this written exam, the paper on English is very important and tests the candidate’s grip on the subject English.

Syllabus of English paper in Combined Defence Services (I) Exam:

The questions asked in the paper of English are from basic concepts of English. Vocabulary, Comprehension, Articles, Grammar, Tenses etcetera form the basic concepts. Candidates need to be thorough with these concepts to fare well in this paper.

Duration of English paper in Combined Defence Services (I) Exam:

The paper on English in Combined Defence Services (I) Exam is of 2 hours in duration. The maximum marks are 100. The questions are objective having a set of alternatives for each. The number of questions is 120.

Scoring pattern:

Candidates are awarded full marks if the answer marked is correct. However on encountering wrong answer 0.33 marks is deducted for each.
