    North Bengal University, which came into existence in the year 1962 not only offers regular courses, but the university also offers a wide range of courses in distance education mode through its Directorate of Distance Education.

    PG courses offered by NBU DDE:

    North Bengal University’s Directorate of Distance Education offers PG course in seven different subjects namely political science, Bengali, Philosophy, English, Nepali, History and mathematics. All these PG courses extend to a duration of two years.

    Subjects offered in the first year of M.A. Political Science course:

    First Year of the M.A. Political Science course offered by NBU through distance education is called as M.A. Political Science Part I and the following nine papers are offered in this first year:

    • Course No. 1: Political thoughts (Western Political Thought)
    • Course No. 2: Main Currents of Political Thought in India (Emphasis on Modern India)
    • Course No. 3: Indian Politics: Structure and Setting
    • Course No. 4: Indian Politics: Process and Issues
    • Course No. 5: Public administration: Approaches, Principles and Theories
    • Course No. 6: Development Administration (with special reference to Indian Administration)
    • Course No. 7: International Relations: Theories and Problems
    • Course No. 8: Contemporary Political Issues
    • Course No. 9: Western Political Theory: Approaches, Models and Theories

    Syllabus for Indian Politics: Structure and Setting paper:

    The Indian Politics: Structure and Setting paper is called as course 3 and the syllabus for this course is divided into five units as follows:

    • Unit I: Socio-Historical Dimensions of Political Culture: Basic Cultural Traits, dominant Values and Traditions
    • Unit II: Successive stages of Constitutional Development and the Making of the Constitution of India
    • Unit III: The Federal System in India
    • Unit IV: Union Executive
    • Unit V: State Governments in India
