    Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is popularly known as TIFR and the institution came into existence in the year 1945. The institute earned the status of Deemed-to-be-university in the year 2002 and it is presently offering doctoral degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics and its related subjects.

    TIFR Entrance Test:

    TIFR holds an entrance examination for admission of candidates to its Graduate School and this examination is called as TIFR GS examination and this term is followed by the year for which the examination is conducted. For instance, the entrance examination conducted by TIFR for its Graduate School for the year 2010 was called as TIFR GS2010. This test is conducted for admitting students to the integrated doctoral courses and doctoral courses offered by the institution in physics, mathematics and chemistry subjects.

    What does TIFR Chemistry Examination evaluate?

    Syllabus for written test in chemistry is similar to the standard syllabus followed by Indian Universities for the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science courses in chemistry. The questions are aimed at evaluating the basic knowledge and understanding of candidates in areas of electro, quantum, analytical, inorganic and organic chemistry, spectroscopy, thermodynamics, biophysics, mathematical, logical and statistical methods.

    Question Paper Pattern:

    The question paper will have 40 questions to be answered in three hours. These are multiple choice questions and each correct answer will carry three marks. There will be a deduction of one mark for every wrong answer and there will not be any deduction for the questions that are not attempted.
