    Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University is specially meant for offering courses pertaining to medicine and related disciplines and the university offers education in four faculties namely Medical, dental, Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy and Allied Health Sciences.

    Faculty of Dentistry:

    Faculty of Dentistry offers PG Degree, Fellowship under PG degree, PG Diploma, UG Degree and certificate courses pertaining to dentistry. BDS course is the UG course offered by this faculty and the course duration is five years.

    Subjects offered in the first year of the BDS course:

    First year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course includes the following papers:

    General Human Anatomy including Embryology and Histology
    General Human Physiology and Biochemistry
    Dental Anatomy, Embryology and Oral Histology
    Dental Materials
    Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge

    About General Human Physiology and Biochemistry paper:

    Total hours allotted by the university for General Human Physiology is 180, which includes 120 lecture hours and 60 practical hours. On the other hand, Total hours allotted for Biochemistry is 130, which includes 70 lecture hours and 60 practical hours.

    Pattern of General Human Physiology and Biochemistry paper:

    Question paper for this paper will be divided into two sections of which Section A will have questions from human physiology and Section B will have questions from biochemistry. Total 35 marks is allotted for each of these sections thereby making a total of 70 marks for this paper.
