    Indian Statistical Service is shortly called ISS examination, which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for appointment of Grade IV officers to the Indian Statistical Services.

    Examination Schedule:

    Indian Statistical Service Examination is generally conducted during the Month of November each year and the notification for the same calling for candidates to apply for the examination is issued by the UPSC during the month of June. Candidates should not be less than 21 years of age and not more than 30 years of age to apply for this examination as on the 1st of January in the year in which he/she applies.

    Eligibility to apply for ISS Examination:

    To be eligible to apply for ISS examination, candidates must have completed their PG degree from a recognized university in statistics/mathematical statistics/applied statistics.

    Syllabus for Statistics-I paper:

    The Indian Statistical Service Examination is conducted for 1000 marks in total with six papers. The Paper of Statistics I is conducted for 200 marks and the paper will have questions from the following subjects to be completed within a maximum duration of three hours:

    1. Probability
    2. Statistical methods
    3. Numerical analysis
