    The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination every year to recruit personnel in the Forest Services, India. It is the third big name after the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS). This examination is conducted all over India by the UPSC.

    Pattern of exam:

    There are basically three phases of this exam- written, interview and medical respectively. The written examination is made up of six papers out of which two subjects are optional. Each optional has two papers. Agriculture is an optional paper that is widely chosen by IFS aspirants.

    Syllabus of Agriculture paper in Indian Forest Service Examination:

    Agriculture is further divided into two papers namely Paper I and Paper II.

    Paper I encompasses the following concepts of agricultural science:-

    Ecology
    Cropping patterns
    Forestry
    Weeds and their characteristics
    Soil
    Water
    Farm Management
    Agricultural Extension

    Paper II asks question on the following topics:-

    Cell and all about it
    Plant Breeding
    Seed production
    Plant Physiology
    Enzymes and Plant pigments
    Fruits, plantation crops, vegetables
    Pests and diseases of plants
    Food production and consumption in India

    Duration of Agriculture paper in Indian Forest Service Exam:

    Both the papers of Agriculture are of two hours in duration. Both the papers contain questions worth 200 marks. Both the papers are descriptive in nature.

    Scoring pattern:

    Marks are allotted based on the quality of answers and amount of information in it. Diagrams are required to be drawn whenever asked. No negative marking is permissible in these two papers.
