    GATE is an entrance examination for seeking admission to engineering colleges to pursue Masters Degree in engineering or masters in technology or masters in architecture. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is abbreviated as GATE. GATE is conducted in eight specific zones based on the location of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The overall control and coordination of GATE currently lies with IIT, Mumbai.

    Exam pattern:

    GATE is conducted in a total of 21 papers; however one can appear only in one paper. Candidates generally apply for that paper in which he or she has completed the undergraduate studies. GATE in Chemistry is quite popular and is hugely taken by candidates.

    Duration of Chemistry paper in GATE exam:

    The allotted duration of GATE is three hours. Questions in the paper of Civil Engineering are objective in nature and 65 in number carrying a maximum of 100 marks. Candidates need to be efficient in time management to crack GATE.

    Scoring pattern:

    Full marks of the particular question are allotted if the answer given is correct. An incorrect answer results in deduction of some percentage of marks from the total marks assigned to that question. For questions 1-25 and 56-60 one-third of the marks will be deducted whereas for questions 26-51 and 61-65 two-thirds of the marks will be deducted. Candidates are advised to thoroughly read the rules and regulations given in the first page of the question paper.
