    The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is held every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This examination is basically for recruitment in the Civil Services, India.

    Exam Pattern:

    Sociology forms an optional paper among the nine papers to be attended by a candidate in the Civil Service Main Examination. Sociology is divided into two papers namely Sociology Paper I and Paper II.

    Paper I of Sociology asks questions from the following topics:-

    Paper II of Sociology consists of the following topics:-

    Historical Moorings of the Indian Society
    Caste System
    Class Structure
    Marriage, Family and Kinship
    Agrarian Social Structure
    Industry and Society
    Political Processes
    Education
    Religion and Society
    Tribal Societies
    Population Dynamics
    Dimensions of Development
    Social Change
    Social Movements
    Women and Society
    Social Problems

    Duration of Sociology paper in Civil Service Main Exam:

    Both the papers are of three hours in duration and have questions of a total of 300 marks. Candidates need to write subjective answers to these questions.

    Scoring pattern:

    Candidates are awarded good marks if the answers are good enough to answer the question asked. Good flow of information is also good for a candidate. No negative marking is permissible in these papers.
