    Joining the Civil Services is a dream come true for many aspirants. The recruitment in Civil Services needs clearing three stages namely the Preliminary, Mains and the Interview. Civil Services Main Exam is taken by those candidates who get shortlisted in the Preliminary phase.

    Pattern of the exam:

    The main Exam of Civil Services consists of nine papers. Each candidate needs to sit for all the nine papers out of which History is an optional subject. History is hugely selected by many candidates as one of optional subjects. History further is divided into two papers namely Paper I and Paper II.

    Syllabus for History of Civil Service Main Exam:

    The history papers are structured in such a way that the two papers encompass the whole of Indian History and World History. Paper I deals with the pre British rule of India. Paper II contains the British rule and also World History.

    Duration of History paper in Civil Service Main Exam:

    History, an optional subject consists of two papers each being of three-hour duration. Each paper is of 300 marks. Candidates need to answer the questions in brief and in detail whenever required. Map pointing is also asked in Paper I of History.

    Scoring pattern:

    There is no negative marking in the two papers of History. Answering with good information is given special credit. Long and unnecessary explanation is strictly discouraged.
