    Download Civil Service Main Exam Previous Years Question Papers

    Candidates passing the CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test) are given the privilege to sit for Civil Service Main Examination. This examination is organized by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) which has its headquarters in New Delhi. This examination is followed by an interview of the selected candidates.

    Exam Pattern:

    This examination is one of the toughest examinations in India. It consists of a total of nine papers, descriptive in nature. The following papers are covered in this test:-

    • Paper I- One of the Indian languages mentioned in the VIII Schedule to the constitution. This is a qualifying paper of 300 marks.
    • Paper II- English(qualifying paper conducted for 300 marks)
    • Paper III- Essay of 200 marks.
    • Paper IV & Paper V- General Studies of 300 marks each.
    • Paper VI, VII, VIII and IX- Two papers of 300 marks from two subjects which are to be chosen by the candidate from the prescribed list of subjects.

    Syllabus of Civil Service Main Examination:

    The syllabus of General Studies deals include Indian History and Geography. Various economic policies and various developments are also encompassed in General Studies. Essays can be from wide range of topics. The syllabus of optional papers is of the graduate standard. The syllabus of English and the other languages deal with various literary works of eminent scholars and authors.

    Duration of Civil Service Main Examination:

    This examination is held in a span of about one month with different subject papers held in different dates. Each paper is of 3 hours duration.

    Scoring pattern of Civil Service Main Examination:

    As the questions are of descriptive type marks vary on the quality of writing. Special credit is given to ‘to the point’ answers. There is no scope of negative marking in this particular examination.
