    The School of Distance Education shortly called as SDE of Bharathiar University came into existence in the academic year 1991-92 and the school has limited its operations with a view to strengthening its based for offering the best quality education. However, with a view to attain higher literacy rate and for achieving higher gross enrolment ration, the school has started to expand its operations by identifying and approving study centres throughout the nation.

    Courses offered by the School of Distance Education:

    The school of Distance Education of Bharathiar University offers courses under different categories like diploma courses, PG Diploma courses, professional courses, PG courses, lateral entry courses and UG courses. Of these courses, the B. Sc Catering Science and Hotel Management course comes under the category of UG Courses and for seeking admission to this course, candidates must completed their higher secondary/polytechnic diploma awarded by the Technical Education Board of the state of Tamil Nadu.

    Papers in the B. Sc Catering Science and Hotel Management:

    The B. Sc Catering Science & Hotel Management course, extends to a period of three years and totally there are 12 theoretical papers in the course apart from seven practical papers. The list of theoretical papers offered in the course is given below:

    Food Production and Patisserie I
    Food & Beverage Services I
    Accommodation Operations
    Food Production and Patisserie II
    Food & Beverage Services II
    Computer Application
    Food & Beverage Management
    Hotel Law
    Food Service Facilities Planning
    Hotel Accounting
    Human Resource Management

    Each of these subjects has at least five units in the syllabus and the pattern of question paper for all papers is that the papers will have eight questions and any five questions are to be answered with each question carrying 20 marks thereby making 100 marks in total.
