The Directorate of Distance Education of Annamalai University came into existence in the year 1979 and it offers more than 400 courses in different faculties of education through distance education mode. Among the different faculties in which courses are offered by the university, the faulty of education offers Bachelor of Education course from the academic year 2008-09 with approval from the National Council of Technical Education.

B. Ed course is offered under professional course category by the university and the duration of this course is two years.

Eligibility requirements:

For applying to the B. Ed course offered by the Annamalai University through distance education, candidates must have completed their graduation from a recognized university and the course is meant only for in-service teachers in higher secondary, secondary, middle and primary schools with at least two year teaching experience. Admission to this course will be on the basis of their performance in a written entrance test.

The B. Ed course offered by the Annamalai University through distance education includes several papers of which Education in Indian Society –I is offered in the first year of the course.

Pattern of the paper:

The Education in Indian Society-I paper of the B. Ed course is conducted for total 80 marks with time duration of three hours. The question paper will have three sections being section-A, Section-B and Section C. Section A includes 10 questions carrying two marks each making a total of 20 marks for section A, Section B includes 8 questions out of which six questions are to be answered with each question carrying five marks making a total of 30 marks for this section. On the other hand, section C has two questions with internal choice in either or format for each question, each question in this section carries 15 marks thereby making a total of 30 marks.
