Re: Is doing CA necessary after CS or vice-versa?

CA stands for Chartered Accountant and CS stands for Company Secretary. We cannot compare CA and CS because, both are different fields. CA is basically a study of Taxation and it deals with various statutory audits, audit under Income Tax Act called Tax Audit etc. a person after completing CA will have knowledge in Accounting, Taxation, Auditing and various corporate laws like the Companies Act as well as Financial management and costing. A CS person will have knowledge in corporate and labour laws and other such laws and working knowledge of Auditing, accounting, costing and financial management. The scope of practice and work of CA is more than that of a CS and thus CA stands higher when compared to CS.

So I think it is very clear that, both CA and CS differ from each other, and even the job profile is different. So if you wish to work in the field of taxation, it will be good you do CA and if you want to work on company law and executive affairs management, then go for CS. CS could be followed with a degree in law.

Choosing the right career path is one of the most difficult task for most students. Always choose the career path based on your skills. Also what you would like doing. Some of the options for a BCom graduate are pursuing Chartered Accountancy Course or Company Secretary Course or Institute of Cost and Work Accountants.
The role of a Company Secretary is to look into the legal aspects of the company including incorporation, promotion, amalgamation, rewinding. Also if the company is going public then it is the responsibility of the Company Secretary to look into the public issue. Also they will be required to look into the excise laws, sales tax, and corporate law. In short he/she will be required to look into the finance, accounts, legal administration.
Chartered Accountancy deals with accountancy, auditing and taxation aspect. They have the option to either work as auditors of the company, or go in for private practice of audit and consultancy. They are required to handle the financial accountancy of the company. As part of the consultancy they could be required to handle the cost accountancy like arriving at the operational cost of the company. Also they can provide services like project planning and finance, corporate law advice, business advice. By clearing the Institute of Cost and Works Accountant course you will be specializing in the field of Cost and Management Accountancy. An in depth knowledge will be available on how to manage a business under various circumstances.
You need to decide the area where you are more comfortable. Choose based on what your area of interest is.

    Hello

No there is no such requirement that CA is necessary after doing CS.

CA and CS are both separate course. Both has its own value.

A person who is a CA is the expert of auditing and accounts.

A person who is a CS is expert in company law matters.

So the scope of both the courses are different. Both can not be compared

here you need to understand that both the course are different and they are independent ,you can not complete both the courses at a time .Both are related to commerce domain thats true ,So you first decide for which course you want to go for then choose the course .
