The UPSC based civil services examination doesn't demand any specific degree so as to become IAS/IPS officer.

The exam only demands the following eligibility criteria to be fulfilled:
    > Candidate needs to be a graduate in any discipline.
    > Candidate in the final year of graduation may also apply.
    > The age of the candidate must be in between 21-30 years.
    > There is corresponding upper age limit relaxation to the minorities like 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

The exam is conducted in 2 phases- Preliminary exam and Main exam.
Preliminary exam is held during May/June
and Main exam is held during October/November.
The exam notification is released in the month of December.

Both the exams have their specific patterns of exam conducting and passing the former only takes you to the main exam.
