You can join Merchant Navy directly as Deck cadet after the pre sea training once you complete your +2.It is a nine months course. If you don’t wish to appear for CET you can enter as Deck Cadet after your graduation in BSc.nautical Science. It is offered by colleges like Indian Maritime University, T.S. Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata.But for that you need to qualify the entrance exam conducted by the university. If you wish to join Merchant navy you need to pass the Physical test.Your eyesight should be 6/6. +/- 2.5 eyesight is also considered. You should pass 10+2 with at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates should be intelligent, flexible and willing to work in a team. Those who aspire a career in Merchant navy should not be sea sick. It is extremely important.

The minimum qualification requirement for joining Merchant Navy is 10+2 with English as medium of instructions. There is an age limit of 25 years for joining. Also the candidate must be physically fit as per M.S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000. Eye sight should be normal 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and normal color vision.

IIMS Karnataka offers GP rating course for 10th pass students. wherein they are provided with a paid on board ship training of 12-18 months providing a stipend of Rs. 10000-20000 / month.After which they are given placement assistance to make them serve in Merchant Navy at salaries ranging from usd500-700. lacs a month. for further info- yatin26 at gmail

COC3 course at IIMS ,Karnataka after 10+2 provides you with the stipend paid on board ship training paying 10000-25000 / month. after which students get placed at salaries ranging from Rs. 1.5- 2 lacs a month.
Time period of course is 2 years( approx.) including 12-18 months of stipend paid training.Students of PCM / Commerce with Maths are eligible for one module whereas students of all three streams ARTS/SCIENCE/COMMERCE are eligible for another module .
Many institutes in india make students undergo a three year classroom training program and provide them with a B.Sc. degree which is actually a waist of time. They do not provide students with sea training which is mandatory to get CDC , valid license to serve as merchant navy officers. Students are left totally on themselves to search for a sea training in which they spend 1 year to locate such a training for themselves. after which the job hunt starts bcoz. an institute which didnt even provide for a training doesnt help students in placements.In all this process takes about 5-7 years .

GEC course provides for converting Engineers of all streams to Marine Engineers within 1.5 years with paid stipend training of Rs. 10000-25000 a month on board ships. After which they get a salary of around 2 lacs a month as Marine Engineers.
5 MONTHS IN THAILAND + Mo 8 Months Sea Training On Board SHIP with stipend RS. 20k/month

if u hav cleared imu-cet then u can straight away contact colg and try for admission aftr some time...the reason being that some students fail in mmd eye test and their seats remain vacant...my frnd got admission like this..so i would suggest u to try
