The most important criterion to become a judge is to possess a LLB degree. You can secure admission for LLB only if you clear CLAT examination. You can become a judge either in Supreme Court or high court after LLB. But a relevant experience or practice as a lawyer is significant to apply for the post of Judge. To become judge in high court, you should practice as a lawyer for 3 years. It is true that one should practice as a lawyer for at least 10 years to become a judge in Supreme Court. Candidates are selected for this post only if they clear judicial services exam.

Dear friend , it is not compulsory that a lawyer with a minimum of 10 years of experience is only eligible to become a judge.

The compulsory criteria for a lawyer to become a judge are :

1) You must hold a LLB degree.

2) You must have practised as a lawyer for minimum of 3 years.

If you like to become a judge of Supreme Court Of India , only then , its compulsory for a lawyer to have 10 years of experience otherwise not.
