    Is it compulsory for an IAS officer to know the local language of the allotted state?

    Is it compulsory for an IAS officer to know the local language of the allotted state? Actually I don't know anything other than tamil so.... help me out

    No,
    but you should at least be able to understand if not speak the local language of the people.
    next i want to say that you will be alloted in that state only of which you know the local language. so no need to worry.

    no it is not a necessary bt why they are said like that means any IAS officer cannot posted in their own district or state .the postings in another district or in state so the person know the local language bt it not compulsory
