Re: Can you describe me about Nationalism?

When you are filling application forms there is sometimes a section called nationality and not
nationalism. Here you have to specify your nationality. Nationality means which nation do you
belong to.It is your identity of which nation do you belong to.If you are born in India then your
nationality is Indian. Nationality is equal to citizenship.

Also remember that nationality is different then ethincity. For example You are born in India
and then in childhood only you migrated to US and then take US citizenship, then you will be
called a US national and not Indian national. However your ethincity will be Indian.

Same way our Indian goverment also allows people of some countries like Nepal, Bhutan ,
Burma, Sri lanka and several others to appear in the various examinations like the Civil
services, Indian engineering services, Bank Probationary officers etc. This is because
they have migrated to India and taken Indian citizenship.

Hope your doubt is clear now and as per your question regarding nationalism , it is a totally
different kind of theory. It is a political theory which represents the people of a nation as
a whole. In our country nationalism is widely influenced by religion. The freedom struggle
of Indian under Mahatma Gandhi and several other leaders was a Nationalist movement.
Swaraj and other freedon struggle movements were all examples of nationalism.

Hie friend,

The term nationalism is generally used to describe the attitude that the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity.

It is defined in terms of common origin, ethnicity, or cultural ties..

it is a political ideology that involves a strong identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms.

it is nationalism that creates national identity

It can be a belief that citizenship in a state should be limited to one ethnic, cultural or identity group.

Re: Can you describe me about Nationalism?

DEAR FRIEND.
NATIONALISM IS A POLITICAL IDEOLOGY THAT INVOLVES AN IDENTIFICATION OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE WIYH A POLITICAL ENTITY DEFINED IN NATIONAL TERMS THAT MEANS A NATION. IN THE MODERN VIEW, IT IS NATIONALISM THAT CREATES NATIONAL IDENTITY. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DEFINITIONS FOR WHAT CONSTITUTE A NATION, HOWEVER WHICH LEAD TO DIFFERENT STRAND ON NATIONALISM. IT CAN BE A BELIEF THAT CITIZENSHIP IN A STATE SHOULD BE LIMITED TO ONE ETHNIC, CULTURAL OR IDENTITY GROUP OR THAT MULTINATIONALLY IN A SINGLE STATE SHOULD NECCESSARILY COMPRISE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS AND EXERCISE NATIONAL IDENTITY EVEN BY THE MINORITIES.
NATIONALISM MIGHT ALSO BE PORTRAYED AS COLLECTIVE IDENTITIES TOWARDS IMAGINED COMMUNITIES WHICH ARE NOT NATURALLY EXPRESSED IN LANGUAGE, RACE OR RELIGION BUT RATHER SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTED BY THE INDIVIDUALS THAT BELONG TO A NATION.
NATIONALISM IS SOMETIMES REACTIONARY, CALLING FOR A RETURN TO THE NATIONAL PAST AND SOMETIMES FOR THE EXPULSION OF FOREIGNERS. OTHER FORMS OF NATIONALISM ARE REVOLUTIONARY CALLIG FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT STATE AS A HOMELAND FOR AN ETHNIC UNDERCLASS.
NATIONAL FLAG,ANTHEMS, AND OTHER SYMBOLS OF NATIONAL IDENTITY ARE CONSIDERED SACRED IN NATIONALISM AS IF THEY ARE NOT POLITICAL BUT RELIGIOUS LEADING TO DEEP EMOTIONS.
