Re: Can a MTech candidate appear for the NET exam?

A minimum of Post Graduation qualification is a must for appearing for this exam. Also those in the final year too can apply. So you are eligible to apply. For the June exam in 2011 the forms were available till 31st March 2011. So it is late to apply for the same. You can however try the December exam. You must check for notification from around September. In the mean time start preparing for the same. Since you are a M.Tech in Computer Networking you must select subjects in this stream only. You will not be allowed to select any other option.

Re: Can a MTech candidate appear for the NET exam?

yes, you fulfill the eligibility criterion for taking NET. it is undertaken either for the award of Junior Research Fellowship or for becoming eligible for lectureship. candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Masterís Degree /equivalent examination from institutions recognized by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this test and it is 50% for the SC/ST/PH/VH candidates.
there is no upper age limit for lectureship but one should not be more than 28 years of age to apply for Junior Research Fellowship.
you can choose any subject in your field of academics that you might be well versed with or can also opt for some other subject in your field of interest.
and as you are in the Final Sem of your Masters, you too can appear for NET. for this year, the exam will be conducted on 26th June. and the last date of application was 25th of April.
i hope you might have applied by now as the dates are no more available for application.
    all the best!!!!
