Of course you can Crack IES Exam if you practice 5 hours a day. The Questions asked in the written Exam are includes Technical Questions and General Aptitude Questions

The Question papers of IES are as following

    paper-1:Objective type Engineering paper
    paper-2:Objective type Engineering paper
    paper-3:Objective type General Aptitude paper
    paper-4 Descriptive type Engineering paper
    paper-5 Descriptive type Engineering paper

The Questions asked in Engineering papers are from the same subjects you have study in B. Tech such as Strength of materials,Fluid machinery,Thermodynamics,Machine Design etc

The Aptitude paper includes General English and General Knowledge

It will be better to start with the course books so that you can brush-up your Knowledge

yes my friend u can do that while u are working in a job..but u must have all ur original docs ready and u must be eligible to apply just check that out as the min eligiblity is to have a degree in engg..
also for preparation u should start with clearing ur concepts and practising numericals from the course books and guides..then jump to ur sample papers..also when u think u are done with the preparation just download many sample papers and solve one paper each day in the same time period when the original exam is to be held like 10 to 1 pm..etc..this wil lead to a mock test of urs and will increase ur speed..all the best..
