    Can I appear for NET exams which are going to be held in this december if I'm pursuing M.Sc 2nd year now?

    Iam in 2nd year msc appearing my final papers in june 2012. Can i appear for the net exams held this year on december 2011?

    If you are Pursuing your Final year Post Graduate degree course then Yes, you are eligible for December NET Examination.

    >> NET Stands for National Eligiblity Test and this examination was Conducted by UPSC Every year, The examination was held in June And December Every year, June 2011 NET Examination was already completed and Those who missed the June NET are eligible to apply for December NET Examination.

    >> As You said that you are Pursuing your Final year Post graduate degree course then you are eligible for December NET Examination , The Notification of December NET Examination was Going to be Published on 26/SEP/2011. The examination was Going to be held on 24/Dec/2011.

    So, Please wait for the Notification and then apply for this examination online by visit the UGC NET Official website. To apply for NET Examination you need to complete your Post Graduation degree course in any discipline form a recognised university and you must have scored minimum 55% marks in your Post graduation. Final year Post graduate candidates are also apply for NET Examination.

    The examination Fees of NET Was Rs 450 and you have to pay the fees through challan in SBI Bank Branches and then you are eligible to fill the application form Online.

    So, Please wait for Few days because the Notification of NET Examination was Going to be declared soon and You can apply for Lectureship Post OR Junior research fellowship post. There is No age restriction to apply for Lectureship But for JRF your age should not be more than 28 years.

    There are Three papers in the NET Examination and All the conducted in the same day in 2 session, the first session paper was Objective and last session paper was descriptive, You have to choose one optional subjects in NET as per your Post graduation based. So, If you are Pursuing your final year Post graduate degree course then you are eligible for NET Examination, So please wait for the Notification and then apply for NET Examination and for More Information check the official website -

    The meaning of NET is " National Eligiblity Test".And this exam was conducted by UGC every year.

    Eligible criteria for NET examination -


    -- Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Masterís Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Masterís degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

    -- Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Masterís degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Masterís degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

    -- A final year candidates are also eligible for NET exam.

    So,Yes,You can appear for NEt exam.

    Dear Aniluq,

    Yes, you are eligible for NET exams because you are in the final year of your PG(M.Sc 2nd year).

    So you can write NET exams which is conducted by UGC...

    DETAILS OF NET:::

    NET Stands for National Eligibility Test which is conducted by UGC(University Grants Commission).
    NET is conducted twice in a year.
    -June
    -December

    Eligibility for NET::
    ->You must have PG with min.55%
    ->There are 2types of Posts in NET:-
    1)Lectureship post(LS)
    2)Junior Research Fellowship(JRF)
    -->There is no upper age limit for "Lectureship post"
    -->You must be within 28years for "Junior Research Fellowship"(5years age relaxation for SC/ST,BC and PH Candidates)

    ->If you are in Final year of your PG also eligible to write NET.


    Structure and Pattern of NET Exam::

    # It consists of 3Papers
    * Paper I
    * Paper II
    * Paper III
    # Both Paper I and Paper II are OBJECTIVE TYPE. Paper III is DESCRIPTIVE TYPE.
    # Paper I contains
    - General Knowledge
    - Current Affairs
    - Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Methods For (50 questions) Ė 100 Marks
    # Paper II contains
    - Your Core subject for (50 questions) - 100 Marks.
    # Paper III contains
    - Your core subject in PG and will have 4Sections.
    Section 1- 5x5= 25 marks (30 words)
    Section 2 Ė15x5=75 marks (30 words)
    Section 3- 5x12= 60 marks (200 words) and
    Section 4- 1x40= 40 marks(1000 words)
    Total for 400Marks.

    # Paper I and II exams are conducted during Day time and Paper III will be conducted afeternoon on the Same day.
    # There is no negative marking for objective questions.



    Application Procedure for NET::

    ->> You have to apply online before the specific date announced by UGC.

    ->> Two print-outs of filled in online application form,exam attendance slip and admission card at the respective centers (with fee receipt and category certificates) are the documents required for applying to this exam.


    ->> This will be of 450rs/- for General and 110 rs/- for SC/ST.

    ->> You have to pay this through SBI Challan form Via Online.


    Exam Dates for NET::

    --> June Exam has already finished the next exam is on 24th Dec'2011
