Re: Can A chartered accountant become an IPS officer?

Yes off course a person can appear for CSE(Civil services examination), even after completing his or her Chartered Accountancy course but there are some conditions which are
required to be satisfied by any candidate for appearing for CSE.As you have only mentioned that you are pursuing Chartered Accountancy, it is not self explanatory that you
have pursued any graduation course or not. According to the guidelines issued by ICAI(Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), the eligibility criteria for pursuing CA is only higher
secondary and even if a person is not even a graduate then also he or she can pursue this course.

But same is not the case with Civil services examinations, the minimum eligibility criteria for appearing for IAS, IPS, IES, IRS, etc is to have a graduation degree.
And the student should also satisfy the minimum percentage required to appear for the exams. These exams are conducted by an autonomous body called UPSC
(Union Public Service Commission). The procedure to become appear for Civil services exam can be as follows:

1)Firstly you have to appear for the first level. The first level is known as Preliminary exams. This is an objective examination. But before appearing for the exam
, you have to fill the required form. The form for civil services exams usually available at post office and you are required to deposit the form at some specific
locations or you can even send it through post. The preliminary exams are usually conducted in the month of June. And the results are usually declared after two to
    three months.

2)The next phase in this process is the Mains examination. This exam is conducted after declaration of results of the preliminary exams(not immediately).
Any candidate, who has cleared or qualified the first level would be eligible to appear for this level. The exam is an subjective type exam. The candidate is
required to select subjects according to his or her preference. The candidate is examined for those subjects.
Most of the students who go for Civil Serves, usually select the subjects which they have already studied at their higher secondary or their graduation level.

3)The third level which is required to be faced by a candidate to qualify is an personal interview. This is one of the most level in this process and even some of the
best students(who may have scored high in many exams) are eliminated at this stage. So, a candidate needs to be really careful as well as tactful while answering the
questions of the interviewer. A candidate needs to have good communication skills and to have a good knowledge of current events happening at national and international
level. But here good communication skills does not means that the candidate needs to face the interview in English, he or she can also answer all the questions in even Hindi.

One thing which must be noted by a candidate while facing such exams is that a large portion of the questions asked in such exams is from general awareness.
So, the student must try to keep himself updated and should have good knowledge of the various changes taking place in the economic, political, administrative, etc
sectors of the country. And these exams also require patience as well as immense hard work to be done by the individual.
