    Hello,

    First i want to let you know,To get admissions in to MBA course in the top business schools then you must qualify in CAT entrance test.GATE is for M.Tech not for MBA course.CAT is a common entrance test to be conducted by IIMs to get admissions in to their management programs.This is a online test and it is a national wide entrance test, where you should write the entrance test in on line.almost all the business schools in India are accepting CAT score.CAT is a difficulty entrance test in India.Appearing candidates are also very high for CAT entrance test.This test is conducted once in a year.To apply for CAT entrance test then you must be completed your graduation from recognized university with 50% of marks and if you are belonging to SC and ST then 45% of marks are enough.there is no age limit.Top ranked MBA institutes in INDIA are;

    Hi

    >>> GATE is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam which is conducted by the IIT's to select candidates for the various M.Tech programs in various IIT's , NIT's, BITS, and other best institutes in our country.

    >>> CAT is the Common Admission Test which is a post graduate exam and conducted by the IIM's. It is aimed at selecting the best graduates for the MBA course in the IIM's.

Now GATE is only restricted to the candidates who are graduates in B.E/B.Tech whereas for the CAT, all the graduates from any stream can apply.

Every year the maximum students applying for GATE is about 1.5 lacs. But for the CAT is about over 3.5 - 4 lacs.

So the competition is much lesser in GATE.

Now you have to decide which is more prior to you.

    All the best.

Re: Which is the better option between GATE and CAT in terms of getting a seat in premier institutes for MBA course?

I think you have some wrong information related to the GATE and CAT examination .

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam

GATE examination is conducted by IIT's every year for admission to the Master degree courses of technology .Mtech is the master degree which most Btech students like to pursue as it provides them more technical knowledge then others .GATE examination is done for admission in the IIT's and other good colleges .

    Eligibility for GATE::

You should have done 4 year engineering degree from a recognized college. There is no minimum CGPA required for the exam.

Those who have done MSC in computer application or any sceince subjects can also appear for the GATE exam.

Students who are in third year of their engineering are not eligible to apply for the GATE exam .

GATE score is valid for 2 years

There is no upper age limit for the examination .

    Common Admission Test

CAT examination is conducted by IIM's every year for admission to MBA programme in IIM's .The examination is conducted in the national level.IIM's are one of the best colleges in India and students who study here generally get higher packages then other MBA colleges.CAT examination is held only once in a year in the month of November every year and the notification gets declare in the month of August.

    CAT eligibility ::

You must hold a Bachelorís Degree, with at least 50% marks.

There is no age limit for the examination .

Final year students can also apply for CAT examination.

The admission process is completed in two phases :

    1.Written exam .
    2.Group Discussion and Interview

So if you are interested in pursuing MBA then you should take CATexamination .

CAT Stands for Common Aptitude Test is conducted by Indian Institute of Management every year for admission in top management School and this examination is one of best examination for MBA courses. To apply for CAT examination, then you have to complete your bachelor's degree in any discipline with 50% aggregate marks in your examination,Final year of degree course can also apply for CAT examination.

If you are scored good marks in your CAT examination and then you can get admission to the IIM"S

    Syllabus of CAT examination :- Quantitative ability,Verbal ability,Data Interpretation,Data Sufficient,Logical reasoning.

Selection Procedure of CAT examination :-Written examination,Group discussion,Personal Interview.

This year examination was already completed and next notification will be publish in the month of August in the official website of CAT or employment news paper.

    GATE examination :-
    ------------------------

To apply for GATE examination, you have to finished your graduation in engineering/architecture from a recognized college or university OR you have to finished your post graduation in any branch of Science/Satistics/Computer Science/Mathematics from a recognized university or equivalent examination.

Those who are appearing in the final year of bachelor's degree or master degree may also eligible to apply for GATE examination

CAT -- Common Admission Test .

    >>IIM will be conducting the CAT in October - November 2012 and CAT Advertisement will appear in
    leading newspapers on August 2012.

    >>For appearing CAT examination you must need a min of 50% in your degree and there is no
specific mentioned for MAT examination , but the candidate must be a Passed Graduate .

GATE -- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering .

GATE is an all India test. The test is carried out jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology for admission to Masters in Technology (M.Tech) post graduate program.

The GATE test duration is 3 hours. There are 65 questions with a maximum of 100 marks.

    Important Dates of GATE :

The GATE exam carried out in the month of February.
The application forms can collected online on September 4th week.
The forms are available until October 3rd week.
The application forms can be collected from the GATE office counters at the end of October.
Filled forms can submitted online until October last week and offline before November 1st week.
The results come out by March mid week.

The best between among these two is appearing for CAT, as you are interested in MBA but nor in M'tech .

The Competition in CAT is low when compared to GATE .

    All the Best !!

Re: Which is the better option between GATE and CAT in terms of getting a seat in premier institutes for MBA course?

GATE and CAT are two different examinations for admissions to two
    different type of courses.

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) and is
a entrance examination for admission to various Post graduate courses
in engineering like ME and MTech. It is conducted jointly by the Indian
institute of sciences (IIS) and Indian Institutes of Technologies (IIT)
for admission to the various post graduate programmes in various Engineering
courses in institutes all over India.

The eligibility for applying to GATE is that you must have a Bachelors degree
in engineering like BTech or BE or a equivalent degree to engineering like the
one awarded by a professional organisation like AMIE.You can apply for GATE in
even your final year of engineering course. GATE is also considered to be one of
the toughest courses of our country. This examination is given lot of importance
by even some Public sector companies for recruiting candidates for the post of
    Trainee engineers.

Whereas CAT stands for Common admission test which is again one of the toughest
management examinations of this world. On the basis of CAT score you will be eligible
for the admission process of some top class Buisness schools of our country like the

    -Indian Institute od Mangement(IIM'S),
    -Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
    -MDI-Gurgaon,
    -IMT-Ghaziabad,
-S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) etc.

Most of the top Buisness schools India today are considering CAT score for
shorlisting candidates for the Group Discussion rounds and Personal interviews.
So both GATE and CAT are equally tough examinations and it's really tough to
secure a good score in both of them. So it really depends on your intrest that
in which field you want to make your career into.If you are intrested in pursuing
higher education in engineering go for GATE or if you are intrested in pursuing
higher education in the field of management then go for CAT.

Dear as you have mentioned that you are interested in MBA so from my opinion MBA will be best for you.
As you wanated to get admision in top colleges for MBA.than you have to do work hard and have to cark the CAT exams.
Then only you will be eligible for next session of your admission.
In next session you have to do group discussion and perssonal interview and than finally you get admission in IIM's for MBA.
So do workhard as you can do for getting admission in MBA.

GATE--> Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This exam is conducted for the admission of students in M.Tech course in top colleges of India like IITs and NITs.

CAT--> Common Admission Test. This exam is conducted for the admission of students in MBA course in top institutes of India like IIMs, XLRI , ISB etc.

Mostly engineering students are suffering from the same problem. They are always between these two courses that which course is right for him. People are achieving success in both the fields , MBA and M.Tech ,so it is good for you to stop and evaluate your options according to your own personal likes and aptitude. There is no point of comparison between M.Tech with MBA , because both the courses are different and have different jobs and placements scope.

MBA--> MBA is usually a short to reach the top managerial levels with in companies. An MBA gives you the leverage needed to bargain for better terms of employment. After MBA you can reach upto level of CEO in any multinational company . MBA will enhance your managerial skills. No doubt after completing MBA from good college you have best package job.

M.Tech--> M.tech is a way to go in research field and M.Tech will make you master of your stream. After completing M.tech you will have complete knowledge of your subject/ stream which leads you to success. If you are interested in research field then you can choose it. After completing M.tech you can also get a job as a professor in engineering colleges. If you want to work in core companies then it is better for you to go for MTech.

    Hello friend,
As you are doing B.Tech in Civil Engineering. So , M.tech is better choice for you after B.Tech. Because after M.Tech you become the master's of your subjects which you have studied in B.Tech. This will increase your knowledge. After M.Tech you will have various opportunities in government companies with good package. Government companies always prefer M.Tech students of Civil Branch.

I am agree with that today MBA has vast scope and MBA students are getting good job. But in coming time when recession strikes the India. Mostly MBA students lost their job. No other course is better than Technology course. Because in every country technology is developing and becoming advanced.

So, being a Civil engineering student M.tech course is better choice for you. You can also do MBA from distance learning after M.Tech.
