An M.Tech degree is not only confined to research and teaching alone. One is not only able to get a better insight with the specialisation but is also able to have a command in it. You would definitely get weightage over a B.Tech in which ever organisation you apply as its the time for skilled people. Remember, education never goes waste but it is how you want to leverage it. For doing M.Tech you would have to take the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers(GATE) which would qualify you for senior positions in both public and private sector enterprises. You could also serve the forces with the requisite qualifications.

So you can always get placed in a better industry, than what you get for a BE.

But this doesn't happen usually because, people prefer to do MTech or ME nowadays, just because they don't get placed after doing their engineer undergraduate. So they feel if they do a masters, it will be helpful to get placement with the masters.

Only a few people study masters for Teaching and Research, even after getting a good job during placement.

So what happens is the majority of the BE or BTech graduates, due to unemployment, prefer to do MTEch, which increases the competition for placement.
