It is good that you have started thinking about doing a B.Tech. You should be doing Btech in mechanical engineering. Now the question is whether full time or part time. Though you are thinking about doing a B.Tech part time probably because of the fact that you are working, you should think about the same seriously. If you don’t have a strong family pressure and you are young and don’t have family responsibilities, it is always better to take the B.Tech in the regular mode than the distance education mode. You can always try for a lateral entry for the course since you already have a diploma and in turn that will help you to reduce your time in doing a B.Tech course. The rigor that you get in a full time course, the same rigor you might not get in the correspondence course.

Though you have an edge over the others because you are already working in the industry, the three years that you invest in the regular course will be worth the money. You can get a better placement and probably double the salary if you join it full time because you can always show your work experience while attending campus placements at the end of the course. If you are not in a position to take the course full time then you should take the decision to do it by correspondence as a last resort.

It is good to do Btech in Mechanical Engineering after the Diploma in tools and die making. In the mechanical Engineering stream, one will study the working as well as the guiding principles of different machine and machine tools. Thus the person will have more idea about the various method and way in which the machine works. Another good thing for the career growth is the volume of job opportunities a btech degree can create. Btech in Mechanical Engineering with a Diploma in Tools and die making is an additional qualification and thus they have more openings in private sector as well as in government sectors like Indian Railway, PWD etc. It is now highly desirable to do Correspondence course as you are working and cannot think of leaving the job. At the same time, one should not get strangled with the issues of others. There are many universities which offer the correspondence course and it will help unfortunate souls to continue with their current job.

You asking for B.tech correspondence but thats probably not a good idea since B.Tech is a technical course , doing a correspondence would not have any value. You have completed your diploma you go for B.tech regular which will take only 3 years if you really want to do. Don’t worry about your job , you will definitely gets a better job plus you have to work hard.

Indeed its a good choice to do B.Tech through distance for you. It will help you get more good jobs in future. Alongwith your degree in B.Tech you'll also have practical work experience which is going to ount most when you search for jobs.
