Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (AMIE) Exam

Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers or AMIE is another option for the students who cannot pursue their engineering degree course through the regular programme in an engineering college. The degree obtained from this institution is considered equivalent to the degree awarded in engineering by Government of India, State Governments, AICTE, UPSC, etc.

The institution has its head office at Kolkata and it has 18 state centers and 76 regional centers all over the country. Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers Exam is the examination organized by the IEI for the admission of eligible students to various engineering degree programmes offered in the institution.

Structure and Pattern of AMIE Exam

Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers Examination is conducted for two disciplines separately. They are Diploma stream and Non-Diploma stream. The Diploma stream is referred to as Senior Technician Members and Non-Diploma stream is referred to as Technician Members. This examination is conducted twice every year usually in the months of June and December. It is divided into two sections AMIE Section A exam and AMIE Section B exam.

The Section A exam is general to all candidates who wish to pursue the engineering degree in this institution. The exam pattern under Section A is different for the students who have opted Diploma or Non-Diploma. After the Section A exam, students have to complete a project work and based on the satisfactory report in this work, students will be admitted for the Section B exam. In this section, students can choose a particular engineering discipline which the students wish to pursue. This section of examination will include 10 papers of which 7 are compulsory and 3 are optional subjects.

    Qualification Criteria for AMIE Exam

The qualification criteria for the examination are different for the Senior Technician Members and Technician Members. Students must satisfy those criteria to take part in this examination.

For Senior Technician Members: To become Senior Technician Member or to move from Technician Member to this level, students must be engineering professional working under a corporate member or those who are elected as a corporate member should also gain the corporate membership. They must have pursued a pass in the Diploma examination in any engineering or technology or equivalent or an examination recognized by the council.

For Technician Members: Candidates must have pursued a pass in the senior secondary examination or equivalent of any recognized board with Mathematics wit not less than 45% marks.

    Application Procedure of AMIE Exam

Candidates have to submit an application form and remit application fee of Rs2000/- so as to appear for this examination. They can procure the AMIE examination application form by sending the request along with prescribed application fee as DD to the official address of the institution. The alternative method of procuring the application form is by downloading it from the official website of the institution. Then they should sent the filled up application form to the specified address before the last date.
