National Eligibility Test(NET) is conducted by UGC, to write this exam you must have completed and must have the masters degree from a recognized university. If you are from SC/ST category, you are eligible for the NET test with a minimum of 50% /.If you belong to general category, you must have scored a minimum of 55% in the qualifying exam. There are again two things under this NET exam they are
    JUNIOR LECTURE FELLOWSHIP
    LECTURESHIP

Again the age for these is different they are
1.For pursuing the JLF you should be in between 19-28 years
2.For pursuing the Lectureship you should be atleast 19 years.

Your age will not be an issue to apply for this test. But you have secured only 53% at the post graduation level. The minimum percentage required is 55%. So you cannot appear for this exam. However if you belong to reserved category then you can still apply for the test. Your other option to join the teaching line is to take a Ph.d or M.Phil. You need to check with the university near you on the eligibility criteria for the same.
